VoIP Office fitout and refurbishment

VoIP is short for Voice over Internet Protocol, basically it is a system that uses your internet connection (preferably a fast broadband) to transmit and receive phone calls all over Australia and worldwide. Depending on your VoIP provider you could make some significant cost savings on a traditional land line phone connection.

There are also possibilities for cost saving during the fit out stage as (depending on the needs of your IT department) you may now only need one data port per desk, as the phone handset can plug straight into your computer, this can save potentially up to half the installation of cabling, saving time and money.

Whilst VoIP has its advantages it also has some disadvantages that you should to consider:

• Voice quality can deteriorate if your internet connection weakens or becomes congested, entire portions of conversations may never arrive at the other end.

• When the internet is down... so are your phones!

• Emergency services such as 000 cannot locate you from your VoIP phone in the same way that can from a fixed line phone, so make sure you give them your location (amongst the other details they will require).

• Not all VoIP providers allow you to make calls to all numbers, eg...13 numbers etc... so it is best to check if you are unsure and need access to special numbers.

Whilst we have by no means provided an exhaustive list of the pros and cons of VoIP, we have hopefully given you something to think about.

Of course you will have to check with you proposed VoIP provider and your proposed land line provider and decide for yourself if the VoIP system, with its advantages and disadvantages and any potential savings, are in your company’s best interest. Also you should check that that your internet connection is fast enough to efficiently run VoIP.
